Re: [DMCForum] stainless thickness

sigh.. not thick enough

The other day the wind blew a shopping cart into the left front fender
of my car. It dented the fender and made a small chip in the underbody.
After I removed the panel, I noticed just how flimsy the stainless panel
is.

The panel is at a machine shop right now getting repaired.

You found a girl that willingly talks about Deloreans? Nice..

Subject: [DMCForum] stainless thickness

Hi, gang:

The other day my friend Bekah and I were taking a nice walk around a
lake on a warm Spring Sunday ... and naturally the topic of conversation

wandered from her motorcycle to my potential DeLorean. She wanted to
know how thick the body panels are on the little stainless wonders.
Turns out neither of us know the properties of type 304 stainless steel
and therefore whether they'd have to be thinner or thicker than regular
"carbon steel" used in other vehicles to meet the same stiffness/safety
requirements. So now she's got me curious, too ... just how thick is
that metal? Anybody measured it when they had their car taken apart?

Regards,
Farrar
