John:
True. If I talk to this guy and it seems like he's seriously willing to
sell it to me, and I'm seriously looking at it, I'll have somebody in
the area take a look at it for me. Then I'll consider bidding on it.
For me, buying a non-runner is not such a great idea as I don't have
much mechanical experience. I can do electrical work, but I'm still
learning the rest. I don't intend on doing anything severe to any car I
buy (engine/frame swap). Two reasons: 1.) If it ain't broke or gonna
break, don't fix it. 2.) If you can't afford it, don't do it. There are
many projects which I simply cannot afford at this time, time or money-wise.
Considering this particular car hasn't been titled in three years, I'd
assume the worst which is it failed inspection, or it hasn't been driven
in three years. Or both. Actually, John, you could bid on it and have it
shipped to you, and then you could do your frame & engine swap. If it
really sells cheaply and you can afford to have it sent over on a boat,
it might still be worth it. Unless you can find the hull of one with no
engine in it, of course, which is just possible.
But thanks everybody for the URL. Nice to know there are people looking
out for me. And looking out, for me. :)
