When was the last time you changed the gear lube?  And what type did you
use?

I had a similar problem on my Z when I used synthetic.  For some reason
the
2nd and 5th syncros didn't like it and would allow the gears to grind if I
didn't double clutch.  I switched back to dyno-oil and everything is back
to
normal.
