RE: [DMCForum] dumb question door window problem

I hear no noise from the motor, all is dead. I switched the switches and
the "bad" side works fine with the other side. I have had a problem over
the last year or so where the motor would not kick in unless I rocked it
back and forth and it eventually kicked in. But now nothing. Could that
have been the motor going bad?

According to Rob Grady he put in a heavy duty one in 1999, but didn't
think
it was bought through him. I am not sure but it might have been a used
one
I had here, or one that came wit another door I bought. Rob mentioned a
broken wire thru the door on top.

There are two types of window motors that you could have in the door --
the
original or the heavy-duty aftermarket replacement made by Electric Life.
The original has many weak spots and has an extremely high failure rate
(like greater than 90% according to DMCJoe). So if you have an original
and
it is broken then you are looking at having to take the door apart.

If you are lucky, the problem may just be something as simple as a dirty
switch contact which is common to have happen. Without taking the center
console too far apart, you can remove the window switches and try swapping
them.
