It would take some creative probing to access the thermal control switch
w/o
taking the intake manifold off.  If you just want to check that it is
working properly, this can be done using a hand vacuum pump/gauge and
checking the other ends of the hoses.  When cold, vacuum goes to the
warm-up
regulator.  When warm, it switches the vacuum to the distributor advance.
And in all cases the lines should hold vacuum (no leaks).

Want me to bring my vacuum pump?
