The significance of the letter in the reg plate in the
uk related to when the car was registered for use on
the road . We pay a licence fee but the disc we get
has to be fixed to the inside of the windscreen.
The "w" reg you see in the post relates to the year of
registration being 1980/81. Every August a new reg
letter came into force. But in the last few years they
ran out of letters and changed the system so as to
allow two registration dates in a year. HTH

Can you explain to me what the significance of the
letters represent in the
UK license plates?
I know that some personal/vanity plates are very
expensive to obtain there in
the UK
The only significance here in the USA is
1. State of issue with current renewal year. example.
I pay $60.00 for two
years, per vehicle.
2. If the car has a vanity plate.
Thank you.
