The Lotus Esprit S1 or S2 Transmission (Renault/DMC ?) also uses an Angle
Drive that looks identical to the one on the DeLorean.
The angle drive is featured in the book "Lotus Esprit; The complete
story." The picture of the gearbox is shown in cutaway form, with the angle
drive and cable attached.
The author also has written books about other marques under the same
title e.g. "Lamborghini; the complete story" etc., etc,
Anyone know about this?
Since Lotus was using this angle drive component in the late 1970s and
during the DeLorean development period, it could be concluded that the Esprit
angle drive could be compatible...or not.
I know that Rob Grady of PJ Grady in New York installed a new "Hard Core"
brand angle drive in my former daily driver DeLorean. At the time I also
installed a new lower Speedo cable. Before I installed the cable, I took the
inner cable out, spread a liberal amount of Anti-Seize compound on, inserted
the cable and installed on the DeLorean. I never, once had to maintain the
Angle Drive or the cable in 4 and a half years and 30 thousand+ miles.
I highly recommend the Angle Drives from PJ Grady. I have seen Rob working on
the "Hard Core" angle drives and they are exceptional.
The attractive price from Speedograph could be worth checking. If I had a
spare angle drive, I would ask them to check on the restoration of the drive
as they can perform "upgrades" to the original design flaws and
inefficiencies.
Keep us informed.
Best Wishes,

Mike, everyone,
Here's what I found out about the angle drives from a UK
company that Mike suggested. What do you make of it Chris P? Worth going for?
Seems like a cheaper option than Darryl T's price from the USA which was
about £140 inc. shipping.

all the original smiths stock of delorean angle boxes went to the states
about 3 years ago.
we do a replacement which does the same job but looks very different price
£75 + vat
the alternative is to send us your old one and we will look at the
possibility of repair/recondition which is usually half the above price
