Preferred route?

Hello there,
I would like to hear if any of you Brits can suggest the best route for me to drive. I will arrive at Newcastle and will be driving to Liverpool for atorsion bar adjustment at Wingray Autos before heading up to Belfast.

Now, which is the best route? Newcastle-Carlisle-Liverpool? 
Or: Newcastle-York-Manchester-Liverpool?
