Stian,
In an effort to be of some use, I'll tell you what I make of your query,
although I do NOT own a DeLorean (I do have a Sony stereo though!) so
please
be aware this is all "wot i fink" and could be total cobblers.
It sounds like the old stereo had two live feeds, a permanent live and a
ignition-only live. Stereo's often have this for various reasons - if the
radio is powered by ignition-only then it automatically switches off with
the ignition, but it may need a permanent live to keep it's radio station
and clock settings (where applicable). Powering it all from permanent-live
would allow you to use the radio with the ignition in any position, which
may be desirable. If you can remember if your old stereo worked without the
ignition on then you can tell what type of feed you have. Alternatively,
get
a voltmeter/AutoRanger and test the wire with the ignition on and off to
see
if it's always live or ignition only.
I would guess that as you only have one feed, it's permanently live, which
should do fine for your stereo as at no point will the stereo be completely
without power. So I, personally, would wire all my Sony live wires to this
one live from the car, and see if it works. May as well keep the in-line
fuses, as if I'm wrong or if something doesn't do what it should, they'll
be
an extra safe-guard.
I say again, I don't own a DeLorean (or any electrical engineering
qualifications) and could be advising you to blow up your radio, so if I
were you I'd let this message sit on the list for a while and see what the
others think. I'm sure someone will let us all know if I'm talking complete
rubbish!
That was a long winded way of saying nothing, wasn't it?? Still, I had a
go!
Cheers,
tris
ps. why is "dmcrear" being stuck at the front of all my messages?
