Hi Andy,
I've had my D just over a year and use it almost everyday in the summer. I've
done 7000 miles since I got it (including a trip to the south of France) and in
my experience it's been almost totally reliable - certainly more so than my
modern car (an Alfa). Running costs are not bad either (25ish mpg) and as
you'll probably gather from the club parts are rarely a problem.
My only reservation about using it as my only car is that I don't want it to
deteriorate and I'm reluctant to drive it on salty roads in the winter. I also can't
get a quote for unlimited mileage insurance!!
My advice is get one - they're such a thrill to own, you wont regret it!

PS. I'm starting uni in Derby/Nottingham in September and I'm sure it'll be up
there sometimes so you're welcome to a ride if you need any more
convincing!
