Re: [DML] "1980's Delorean Speedo Cable Fix"

The drive ratio on the original angle drive is 8 turns of the wheel to 9 turns of the cable. If the drive had a 1:1 ratio, it might explain what you describe (though equally delorean speedos aren't renowned for their accuracy!). Easy enough to check.

Best Wishes,

Subject: Re: [DML] "1980's Delorean Speedo Cable Fix"

I've been really happy with my SpecialTAuto angle drive since the day I got
it. I've had my SpecialTAuto angle drive since John first started selling
them and I believe I've logged over 15,000 miles on it. The only thing I
noticed wrong when I installed it was that my speedometer was a little bit
off. What I mean by this is my speedometer shows a speed that is about 11
percent slower than I am actually going.

I verified this by comparing the speed on my speedometer to a GPS and to
the RPM speed chart. Basically when the car says I am doing 65mph I am
really doing about 73 mph.

Since day one I thought nothing about it and figured it was a problem with
my speedometer cluster being out of calibration. I bought a used
speedometer cluster on ebay a couple of years ago and I finally got around
to hooking it up the other day for testing. To my surprise I have the same
problem with the other speedoemeter as well. The difference in speed was
exactly the same as my original speedometer as well.

I am running 195/60/14 size tires in the front, have one of your angle
drives, and one of your long speedometer cables connected directly to the
speedometer. I was wondering if anyone has heard of any issues like this
with John's angle drives or if there is something else I need to check.

For what its worth, I've been really happy with John's angle drive even if
it might be off a little bit. I went through 3 angle drives from DMCH
before John started selling his. Any ideas on what else I could check?
