Although powder coating technology has been around since the 60s, it wasn't in widespread use at the start of the 80s.

Cecil,

I agree with you 100%.  Different people say different things about how they original wheels were finished.  The set of NOS gray wheels that I have do not seem to be powder-coated; however, someone on DMC Talk said that the original were powder-coated, but the process has improved in the past 30 years and that is why they appear to be painted.   I just don't know what to think.
