Replacing the entire unit certainly is an option but at $130 I was
curious if anyone else had corrected an issue like this before without
replacing the entire assembly.  I'm guessing it might take several
hours to do the work.

How is the quality of the NOS part?  With my old switch the wipers
would sometimes continue to operate after putting the switch in the
off position.  I am wondering if a 30 year old electrical part would
possibly have the same issue?  Replacing it with a new part, vs NOS,
would be the best in my opinion.  If I knew what wires did what, I
might be able to remove the thing completely and mount some sort of
universal switch under one of the knee pads.
