As was previously stated, how you plan to use the car and store it will send
you in the correct direction. Many years ago, I originally had Allstate
insurance until they dropped me for no reason. That was when the car had to
be under regular insurance.
I went to Haggerty when they accepted it as a collector vehicle at a $20,000
value. I left them when I found out that they wanted to charge me double
what they were charging a friend when I wanted to up the coverage to $40,000
which my friend had for the same premium that I was paying for $20,000.
I am now with Grundy. They accepted the car at $40,000 with no questions for
a premium of around $300.00 annually with the normal collector car
restrictions. They have increased the coverage 4% each year and the car is
now insured for $49,000. The premium has remained about the same.
If you are going on collector car insurance, make sure that you have "agreed
value" in the coverage. If it is "stated value", you have to prove that
value if you total it.
Fortunately, "knock on wood", I haven't had to use the insurance on the car
since June of 1983.
Good luck,
Gary Masie
