[DML] Re: Delorean Owner

Corvette used a Rochester system, not Bosch. It also was an option, not standard equipment. Last mechanical injected Corvette was 1965 (half a century ago). I suspect mechanics able to work on fuelie Corvettes are even rarer than mechanics who can work on K-Jet.

The fantasy that you can waltz into a Volvo dealership and have them fall all over themselves to work on your DeLorean is beyond preposterous. Not only is there no profit margin to speak of, but potential liability far outweighs any benefit for them. That is why Matt was laughed out of every dealership he tried. Volvo dealerships have their hands full already with recently manufactured cars they already know and trust. There is no incentive for them to accept a vintage Volvo, much less an ophaned marque like ours.

Bottom line: unless you live within striking distance of a DMC franchise, or Rob, you're pretty much doing it yourself. The online community can provide information and encouragement, and of course parts can be delivered to your front door, but chances are you or a friend of yours will be turning the wrenches.

While it is true that at the time Deloreans had mechanical fuel injection and most other cars did not, many imported cars did and so did some Corvettes. Even Jetronics did not last all that much longer, eventually morphing into Motronics which is a more electronically controlled engine system. Your point is well taken, as technology is obsoleted it becomes harder and harder to maintain and service it. That is true in all cases. How many people are left in the world that can adjust the doors on a Delorean and are experienced at it and can do it well?
