Re: [DML] Re: Contemplating a Carb Swap

The Alpine GTA V6's I've driven (that's the non-turbo version powered by this carb'd odd-fire) are perfectly "streetable". Don't trash what you have no experience of...

Subject: [DML] Re: Contemplating a Carb Swap

An owner I corresponded with briefly many years ago ("Yorkshireman") really struggled to get his dual Solex's working well together. Don't know what the final outcome was. I now make an adapter and blockoff plate for that manifold that allows a single Motorcraft 2100 to be used instead:

Something to remember: the Alpine/Peugeot 604 manifold is really single plane, not dual place. There is a big common plenum underneath the two throttle bores of the rear carb. Single plane intake manifolds behave very differently from dual plane manifolds. Their airflow characteristics are totally different. They are basically racing manifolds. Single plane manifolds are marginally faster than dual planes, but at the expense of low speed streetability. Basically you spend most of your time at higher RPM's.

My Volvo A Series manifolds are single plane. I am going to keep them, but after driving to/from DCS on one of my dual plane manifolds I am going to keep it as well.

And I am keeping the Peugeot manifold I bought from Steve.

Options, options, options....
