[DML] Re: Why Owners Carburete Their DeLoreans

Filters, PCV valve, etc aren't behind the counter -- they are on the floor. There's no need to bother anybody behind the counter until you need them to operate the cash register to check out.

This isn't exactly rocket science. People have been buying round air filter elements for decades. I bet Walmart probably sells a suitably sized one (good luck finding anybody to help you in Walmart, no matter how stock your vehicle may be -- definitely self service).

With all due respects, this particular scare tactic is laughable (and somewhat demeaning to the intelligence and ability of carb users).

That's why the documentation on ANY mod is SO important. In my area there are not so many "older" guys who can look at a part and know what to get you. All the "kids" nowadays can't find ANYTHING unless they can look it up on the computer. I didn't say you couldn't get parts, you just have to know how to ask for them. Don't try to order them from DMCH! There are many parts on the Delorean (brakes, filters, etc) that you CAN buy locally if you know a more popular car that was fitted with them. Paperwork is VERY important. Any owner that does something like the carb conversion is well served by keeping good docs on all of it so if (and when) he needs something he knows what and how to ask for it.

Every mechanic in town can work on a simple Motorcraft carb absolutely regardless of what it's bolted on. And every parts house in town has the rebuild kit, simple generic fuel filter, pcv valve, et
