[DML] Re: Rivnut replacement...

If the spinning of the rivnuts hasn't totally worn out the hole in the fiberglass you may try the following first:

- Take a (long) Allen screw and nut of the same size as the bolt for the rivnut. Also have a washer for this set.

- Turn the nut up the Allen screw so there's sufficient thread to cover all the threads in the rivnut.

- Put the washer on the bolt and turn the combination into the failing rivnut as far as possible.
(If the rivnut starts turning and you can grip it from the rear, do so and turn the bolt in as far to make sure it's gripping all the threads).

- Turn the bolt's nut until it touches the rivnut (locking up the washer).

- Take an Allen key and a ring spanner, hold the nut in position with the spanner while turning the Allen key in (carefully not to strip the threads of the rivnut).

- If you feel it's tight enough, loosen the bolt and take it out. Usually at this point you have returned full control of the rivnut.

If the fiberglass is destroyed you need to drill out the rivnut, rebuild the fiberglass and drill a hole for a new rivnut.
