Ah but I did.  My first car, a 67 GTO Convertible (wish I never got rid of it) was completely stock with the 400 ci engine.  I later swapped it out for 427 L88, and maintained the Hurst shifter, even after trying out the Borg Warner Super T10 Transmission.  With power shifting (not letting the foot off the accelerator) I was always able to shift fast enough and very rarely missed a gear.  I never had a sticking problem.  My brother and all our friends with muscle cars never seemed to have any trouble with the Hurst Shifter and linkage.  I knew of one person who put a straight line shifter in, but never complained about any past experiences with the Hurst.
