[DML] Re: Limit Users...

Don't get me wrong I-- LOVED--- Vin 3690 if there was a perfect car built that one WAS IT....!!! It was flawless in every way and 100% original right down to the original Delco-Reme Battery and the NCT tires it always started on the first attempt and in fact would have been a 1st class trophy winner if I still had it today...but of course this was the mid 1980's.. But vin 16686 was the same as above after I restored it from a major collision damage(it was a salvage car when I got it)..

Funny thing it took selling vin 3690 to get vin 16686 back on the road..

Simply being the fact that the guy I would sell vin 3690 had a Delorean..that had a Engine Fire(that's another story) and he was either looking to buy 16686 to fix his or to fix 16686 with his delorean...

Anyway the guy called and found out that 16686 had been sold..and the person forwarded my number to him...next thing I know I get a call..and he is asking me if I want to sell him parts off 16686..I said no way..then he asked me if I was interested in buying his fire damaged delorean..I told him I would come down to look at his car...

So I drove down in vin 3690 at his work place( he was the owner/boss of a machine shop)and he showed me his delorean which he kept indoors in his machine shop..and he asked me to make him a offer..and at the same time I told him I drove down in my Delorean..so he was interested in seeing my delorean...

One look by him...and no matter what he had to have my Delorean..it was love at first sight..I could have said 30K and he would have bought it..but I told him $16500.00..and I would give him 3500.00 for his burnt Delorean(it had a engine fire..all SS panels were fine)Bottom line I sold it to him for what I paid for it..in essence I got a "free" delorean...

He agreed and then I had the parts to repair vin 16686..so if you look at 16686 the only thing weird about it..it now has a 1982 hood with lines(83's were just plain flat hoods) otherwise it is perfect and STILL in Use in the UK..more than twenty years after I restored it..from it's fate as a Salvage parts car.

My story..hope you enjoy it

All cars have them, but the way that you and Bill talk about them sounds like you really hate the cars and I just don't understand how if you have that much negativity for the car, why you would stay involved with them. The Delorean is not a safety vehicle and the Bricklin seemed to be one all the way. I had been interested in them as well, but never got one.
> I have had most of the problems that you described, ac mode switch, bent trailing arm bolts and burnt wires in the relay compartment for the fans and I don't have the same opinion of the car that you do. I was only towed off the road once when I broke a bolt in the shifter and was stuck in second gear. I could have driven home, but thought that I would save the clutch. I had also told the service manager  what I thought was wrong, but was ignored. They ended up paying for everything after I sued them.
> Ford SUV's would catch fire while parked because of a faulty brake switch on the master for the cruise control. I was fortunate not to have the fire and it got recalled. These are man made things and are flawed. We just have to find the problems and fix them.
> As to prospective new owners, I tell them all the time that it is better to get a car that is closer to original than one heavily modified because you don't know what has been done to it, especially electrically and there really isn't any way to find out. The cars are not perfect.
