Correction: brushed enamel retains "pliability".

It flexes and bends better.

Only 20% of the can is actual paint That is why spray enamel yields such thin coats. Brushed enamel is suspended in 50% mineral spirits -- half the can is paint. That is why brushed enamel yields thicker coats. Mineral spirits is also much slower to evaporate, which is why brushed enamel sets up better.
