[DML] Re: New composite underbody

Is there a link to these new bodies and how or with what they were made/engineered from.

And HOW did they come up with these figures(10X stronger)?? Were they crash tested..

I can see maybe the roof structure being stronger since the originals were a combination of T-Bar fiberglass roof panel with a metal box on top of that with a Fiberglass Roll bar(sandwiched with high density foam) to support the doors(the metal box was NOT SS and prone to rust).

As for being "transparent" that does not sound rigid/safe.

The original black body has a "built in" lower side rail(s) that are molded up with the roll bar/cage..all sandwiched with high density foam..which along with the SS Impact Panel built into the door and the Dual locking pins.. gives the delorean a very decent side impact protection...

Remember there is NO actual metal frame rail running along the side of the delorean(aka:like a Bricklin has)on side impacts it is all door and the Fiberglass body and the high density foam sandwich(and YOU) that gets impacted.

Something to think about before looking into those new black bodies...

BTW: the Bricklin and the Mercedes 300SL used the Gullwing doors FOR THAT REASON.. Egress and Ingress was very limited without Gullwing doors..because of the very High Frame running along the sills under the bottom of the closed doors..That is very true on a Bricklin..those black side panels on a Bricklin HIDE a very MASSIVE Frame rail Birdcage/Safety cage Combination ..!!

Delorean on the other hand... used them "because they were sexy"
