[DML] Re: Anyone ever convert to CNG?

Actually, besides the tank and it's locking frame, there are hoses, regulators, safety valves, pressure switches, a vaporizer and a carbureator. Plus a wiring harness and some switches. It is not a "simple" install but it is not all that difficult either. Typically the hardest part is finding a proper mounting place for the tank. Usually you stick it in the trunk and lose about 1/2 of it. More if you decide to carry a spare tank just in case you run out. There are home filling stations you can buy or build but they are expensive and that means CNG, not LPG and you carry a lot less. CNG, compressed natural gas, is not as dense as LPG, liquified propane gas, so it doesn't have as high an energy content as LPG. LPG is what they fill BBQ tanks with. Natural Gas is what you heat your home with. CNG is the same thing, just at higher pressure but not liquified. For a more through explanation there are numerous websites you can visit. If it made that much sense to convert you would see a lot more cars converted to LPG or CNG. CNG is high pressure Natural gas primarily Methane, LPG is liquified Propane.

Any gasoline engine can be converted to LP simply by changing the carb and plumbing it to an LP tank. The world is full of LP powered fork lifts running bone stock Toyota, Nissan, and Honda engines.

Very commonly used on fork trucks, especially used indoors. The big problem is finding a place to install the tank. Other considerations, you get less gas mileage on CNG or LPG. It will take a while for you to save on the expense of all of the added equipment. There are not a lot of places that can fill the tank. The motor runs better and a LOT cleaner. No gas gauge. No road tax.
