[DML] Re: Amtrak Auto Train to DCS 2012

We take Amtrak as much as possible and really enjoy the experience.   It is cheaper than driving considering the cost of gas and wear and tear on you car.   The view and dining experiences are exceptional. 

I agree with Bill, that Amtrak should expand the Auto Train service.   However, in discussing this with my many friend who work for Amtrak, the problems in doing so are formidable:

1. In most locations, Amtrak does not own sufficient property for vehicle storage, loading and unloading, 

2. Amtrak does not have the infrastructure to load and unload the vehicles, 

3. Adding and disconnecting a car with cars at various stops would have significant impacts on scheduling.  

What this country needs to do is commit to high speed rail transportation like the EU, Japan, China, etc.
