Re: [DML] Digest Number 5813

The new bushings should easily last longer than 5 years, even with daily use.
In addition to what Mike mentioned, check the cage under the column.  They will
break particularly if you constantly use the steering wheel to help yourself out
of the car.

In some circumstances they may be able to be welded, but a replacement is much
better considering it is a significant safety feature.  I don't recall it being
very expensive, either.

Is your steering column tilt adjustment tightened? Look for a knob on the right
hand side of the steering column under the dash. Turn it clockwise to tighten.

Hello group,

I was wondering how often steering column bushings need to be replaced.
Mine was done about 5 years ago, but now the column rattles like crazy at
high speeds. It is my daily driver, so I've put some miles on it, but I
didn't expect this to be a regular replacement. I've never heard of any
other car having to replace a steering column bushing every few years.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays,

P.S. It's easy not to read and respond to posts that you don't like. No
one is forcing you to read all of them and get upset about something
someone else says.
