RE: [DML] Bob's BTTF car and more

If you still have the drives the data can likely be recovered. Not
particularly cheap ($500+) but drivesavers can recover almost anything
short of a shattered platter. http://www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com/

I have no connection to them other than knowing of them and knowing people
who have used them.

Chris,

Years ago we made a VHS video about the car and the engine. I have a copy of
the VHS tape, but the original Adobe Premiere video files were lost when my
hard drive- and the back up hard drive- BOTH mechanically FAILED at the same
time and could not be recovered! What are the odds of that? And they were
different brands!

The Rover V8 that I am running was a 3.9 (30 over) with a 4.5 liter
aftermarket stroker crank shaft (4.6 versions of the Rover were not
available in 1992.) 11:1 pistons, Buick 215 Heads, MG headers, Isky camshaft
(about 290 duration). Felpro head gaskets. Custom dual exhaust with
crossover pipe. Hi vol oil pump (external). Oil priming system, for safe
starts after the car has been in storage. Mallory ignition system. Edelbrock
performer intake manifold for 3.5L Rover, 215 V8s. Edelbrock spread bore
carburetor.

We cc'd the engine and it was about 13:1 actual compression.

Probably the most limiting factor in extreme performance for this engine is
the intake manifold.
It is sized for a 3.5 L engine and we are at 4.5L. This means intake air
flow is somewhat restricted

We were going to put a fuel injection set up on it from a 4.2/4/6L engine
using a Megasquirt system. Got the custom ram tube set up made back in 1999,
but then other priorities, put this project on hold. I might revive this
when I retire. Would 30% more air flow mean 30% more HP?

It is still a fun car to drive and the custom exhaust sound is awesome when
you open it up. We did a dyno test of the car at Joilet Race Way on the
Holley portable Dyno. Our friends in the Camaro club videoed it with the
sound track. I have it copy of it somewhere. (Another retirement project to
get all our old VHS tapes organize and covered to digital content.

Full Size Power Windows
However, may spare time focus is making full size power window kits for
converting Delorean windows. I have the H tracks made for 6 kits, have
sources the Lexan windows, just need to make the custom window drive motors
(the engineering is done-just need the time.) Hope to have these for DCS in
June.

No Social Security?
Ironically, my biggest problem right now is the social security system.

Think you can retire at 62 and collect a reduced SS benefit? WRONG IF YOU
ARE SELF EMPLOYED.
Read this You will be shocked.
http://www.ivdgl.org/social-security/self-employed.htm

After paying SS taxes for over 40 years. They can force you to NOT WORK or
they will deny you SS until you are 66. Oh, that part about reducing your
benefits if you work- well it does not apply IF YOU ARE SELF EMPLOYED.

This directly screws the Ma and Pa businesses. These are the ones that have
made most jobs for the past 20 years and now they are screwing us out of
early retirement. NO OTHER DEVELOPED COUNTRY DOES THIS. Yep, more screwing
the little guy. Capitalism for the people, socialism for the corporations.

In our field, over 80% of us are self employed consultants. Many of my
professional friends are nearing retirement age and this has been a very
depressing surprise. I talked to my lawyer friend (as self employed) about
this, he was totally shocked. He is about 10 years younger.

Las Vegas Back to the Future Car Chases
Long term (2-3 years) the DeLorean Time Machine will be moving to Las Vegas.
There my friend Brent will have a V8 VW bus to chase me around the streets.
We will have a Libyan mannequin on the roof with a rocket launcher. We are
taking bets on how long it will be before there is a bullet hole in the
mannequin.

AMC/DMC Annual Car Show?
We would sure like to see the West Coast Delorean owners join us in sharing
an annual AMC/DMC car show the friday PM and Saturday after SEMA at Railroad
Pass Casino. The SNAMC club has been running this AMC show now for 5 years.
It is really inexpensive and a lot of fun. The whole weekend is less than
$200 for meals, room, and registration.

This year included a tour of the El Dorado gold mine. It is a real "Radiator
Springs" with fantastic photo ops. About a 30 minute drive @ the 75 mph
posted speed limit :) (unless you are doing 110 mph-which 2 AMXs did this
year.)

Most attendees are from Phoenix and Southern California. But we have some
people from all over the US. We hope that DMC people from these same areas
would like to have a similar annual event. Imagine the car caravans!
