You hit the nail on the head. Some owners act like they are afraid of their own shadows.

I bought my DeLorean to be a source of enjoyment, not a source of fear and anxiety. I drive the everliving daylights out of the poor little thing. I even drove it through an honest to goodness tornado once (not on purpose of course, but when one unexpectedly passes overhead you don't much choice but to hang on). My car was purchased pre-dented, so I don't need to fret shopping carts in the parking lot. As numerous owners can attest, I let anyone who wants drive it (I even let someone who didn't know anything about shifting gears borrow it once -- oops). #5939 may be many things, but a porcelain doll it is not.

And if worse ever does come to worse, I still have #2508.

Farrar:

Exactly what I wrote to you earlier... :-)

There are usually no coverage for mods unless approved! He said the
company will send an insurance agent who will inspect the car to be
insured as to underwrite the policy if the mod is approved. For the
mods approval, they want to know who and what company is involved and
they want their insurance policy to be attach as be part of policy
when issued. Then he also went on to mention that the Deportment of
Transportation (D.O.T.) has guide lines they use as well... And that
is will be included... That was the start and on and on it went....

It was an expensive ordeal, but worth it. Sometimes, I wonder if I
should have kept the old system and just do the necessary adjustment
or replacement, for the premium was just shy of the front end repair
bills for the give year.

BTW, that affair was for my old S-1 Bentley front end, when a S-2 was
to be installed. The S-2 was a complete casting, which would fair
better on the roads of NYC instead of the laminations of nut and bolt
assembly from the factory. I had mentioned this about it two weeks
ago to Marc Levy when he mentioned about my DeLorean's front end.

Why is everyone making such a big deal about Bill installing stuff on
his car that he bought from vendors? It is his car and he can do
whatever he wants to it.

Shoot, what about William's car at West Coast Customs? How about some
of the other modified cars like VideoBob's BTTF conversions? Wasn't
someone working on a full size window that rolls down as well? I've
never heard anyone talk smack about that. What do insurance companies
think of cars with a bunch of silly props attached to the back that
block the rear view mirror? How about painted cars? Oh, lets not
forget those nice lowered cars. I think DMCH has some sort of
skirting kit too. Lets talk smack about that. Oh yeah, what about
those silly yellow shocks that are being sold too? I'm sure our cars
were never intended to have knobs on the shocks. My car has an
aftermarket radio. The wiring is being held together with electrical
tape. I'm sure one of the wires could come loose and cause a fire.
What other non-stock items could be bashed? I'm not sure.

Honestly, its pretty sad that people can't just leave the topic alone.
Lots of people customize their cars.

Partly it's a purity issue (certain owners have been bashing my car ever since I carbureted it in 2004, conveniently overlooking the fact my replacement engine has no injector bungs -- I couldn't run K-Jet even if I wanted to!), and partly it appears to be a fear factor.

In America, anyone can be sued at any time for any reason. This is a case that was in the news while I was at DMA FFT'11: http://www.washingt onpost.com/ local/fairfax- woman-cleared- in-trial- over-unscooped- dog-poop/ 2011/10/25/ gIQAGmFyGM_ story.html Ridiculous of course, but as you see it actually went before a jury. If you are going to live in America, you had better learn to live with the possibility of being sued. Either you are going to quiver in constant fear, or you are going to take prudent steps to avoid it and simply deal with it if it happens.

There are a couple of useful analogies to the threat of being sued. One is the threat of terrorism. In Israel, terrorism is a neverending threat. Any person can be a victim of terrorism at any time. The Israeli's take prudent steps to minimize that threat, but they don't quiver in constant fear and stop living normal lives because of it. Another analogy is the threat of being shot. Americans purchase slightly more than half the guns produced every year, and the United States has slightly less than half the global civilian gun arsenal (per capita estimates of American gun ownership range from 1 in 7 to 1 in 9). Any American can be shot at any time for any reason. Concealed carry laws mean you can't even tell who may or may not be packing heat, but we don't stop living normal lives because of it.

Regarding the " threat of terrorism."

- If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to witness, does it
make any sound?
- If a terrorist event occurs and there is no reporting of it, does it
terrorize?

I also believe that if the press declared the economy strong today, we'd
be out of the doldrums within days. So does the press "report" or are
they "part of the event". How did they affect JZD over the years?

But I digress :-)

Driving our beloved DeLoreans is a risk as is driving any other car or
doing anything. A day long trial over dog pooping....now there are
resources lost never to be reclaimed in a world that has more
significant issues.
