[DML] Re: Best white letter tires to buy?

All tires are not created equal. Most last 7 years, some do not. Your shop may very well be correct that the shimmy is caused by the tires. One way to confirm is to substitute known good, tires and see if the problem goes away. Make sure you have the correct pressure. One last-ditch fix may be to dismount the tires and remount 180 degrees on the rim. The dynamic tire balancer should be able to show you if the tires are defective but not always, they are not spun "loaded" ie, there is no weight on the tires. Looseness in the suspension ad steering will exaggerate any out-of-balance condition so make sure everything is nice and tight. There are services that can come to you and "detail" the tires. The can fix curb rash, lettering, paint circles, raised letters, etc. How about a nice wide white sidewall a la BTTF? With nice chrome moon hubcaps!

However, when getting the wheels aligned, the shop who did if for me as tried multiple times to eliminate all shimmies from the wheels. I still get a little shimmy at about 35 to 45 mph on the rears. The shop says they've adjusted all that they could and most likely blame the tire at this point for any discrepancy remaining. I trust the shop and all the work they've done on my car. I also do not put the car on blocks in the winter, and start it up every couple of weeks and move the car's position on the tires to help avoid flat spots. Can flat spots and 5 year old rubber be a factor? Should I replace tires every so many years regardless of miles on them? Is a better tire recommended for smoothness and rubber quality? Thanks,
