RE: [DML] DeLorean Owners Association??

Hey Claude,

>From my understanding, the reason the DOA dissolved the regional chapters
was due to insurance liability and tax concerns. I've just left a message
for Joan Truscott to refresh my memory on the details, as she was serving on
the Board when this took place years ago. I'll let you know what I find out
when I hear back from her.

When Ken Baker was President here recently, the DOA attempted a reboot of
local chapters. He, however, had little success enticing people into making
the effort required to allow such chapters to operate within the restrictive
nature of state and federal guidelines. The unwieldy costs associated with
procuring liability insurance for each chapter was also an issue. We'd love
to have chapters again. It was a huge boon to our organization by getting
many people involved at the local level, which helped the success of our
national events and hence our organization tremendously. The DOA has not
been the same since we were forced to shut them down. Any ideas on how we
could overcome these problems would be greatly appreciated!

The idea that only California chapters were supported by the national
organization is completely unfounded. Yes, for years many of the members of
the Board of Directors lived in or around the Los Angeles area, and because
they were also active in their local clubs, they tended to get more press
than anyone else, but that was about it. Even that is not the case anymore.
Ron Ferguson, Joan Truscott and Jim Hales are still in LA, but Stephen Clark
resides in Athens, Alabama, Robert Lamrock is in Belfast and I live in
Cincinnati, Ohio.

I agree that it makes sense for potential members to understand where their
dues would be spent. I am working with the other members of the Board to
get them to understand the benefits of releasing this information publicly.
I will let you know how that effort goes, and if there is resistance to
release it, why.

Talk soon,

Josh

Unless the DOA goes back to it roots..meaning having regional chapters and
stop the BS of trying to aim towards the few rich upper crust that own
deloreans(what D1 was and still doing) and aim for the average blue collar
owner..it is doomed to become DOA...or at best a California owners club.I
was a member when it had regional chapters..and it was a very nice active
club..but being active based in California only today it really does nothing
for the average owner in the other states..except to use the membership
funds for whatever events that are held in their base region.

considering I also have had a bad experience with D1. With the magazine
going forward, I would recommend more info on services and offerings of the
other Delorean facilities and custom shops, as well as tech sections, as in
the 'Deloreans' magazine. Again, it's been a couple of years since I've read
Delorean World, so my thoughts on the matter may be. . .outdated. Just my 2
cents!

screw it. A couple of years back Baker got me to renew for two years with
the promise of an additional year for free. The last time I spoke with him
he had left the DOA and I asked him about the magazine and what had
happened. I told him he had enticed me to renew but nothing had changed
since then. I expressed my disgust and he made a statement to the effect
that he got my money didn't he. At that point I decided I would avoid the
DOA at all costs. Josh..you are a good man and I wish you well in this

guys have heard and read about Eurofest this May 26-29, right? Last I
checked, the website is still up and running, complete with an events page,
and several cars for sale. The new improved store project got under way this
week, and we're looking forward to getting that launched again shortly. In
the meantime, membership is still available through the site, or by
contacting our long-time treasurer, Joan Truscott. Anyone interested in
redesigning and updating the magazine website, should contact me!

is stone cold dead.

appears to be DOA except for taking my money and sending me an old copy of

stay tuned for the Summer 2009 issue. WTF?
