[DML] Re-skinning a door

Someone mentioned a few weeks back that it was possible to re-skin half of the door.

Can anyone elaborate on that further? Top half or Bottom? I presume the seam is hidden under the rub strip so any imperfections are hidden.

Has anyone had this done? Has anyone had it done in the Los Angeles area?

The passenger door on my wife's car has damage near the bottom on the outside panel. DMCCA said they could make it look better, but not perfect. They suggested replacing the door. I'd like to understand if re-skining it might be a viable option for a good quality repair.
