Re: [DML] Practical hopes for Delorean

Make that "Rob" not "Rog." I'm not aware of any expert DeLorean mechanics named Roger Grady!

Awhile later I let Rog Grady...

When I first bought my '82, I decided to do a tune up. Having never done one
before, and finding the workshop manual less than enlightening, I enlisted the
aid of an experienced mechanic friend. (Cue the insane, "now-I-know-better"
laughter. Bwa ha haaa!) I think he got 2 plugs replaced with extreme frustration
before giving up with the remark that he didn't see how anyone could change
those plugs and distributor without taking half the engine apart. Maybe it was
only one plug. Awhile later I let Rog Grady do it. Took me another 8 years to
get around to tackling that job. Yeah, it would be nice if car designers had to
personally service a 100% accurate prototype before final designs were approved.
One good result of that experience... if bred in me an obsession to see the
manuals revised and updated. Several years ago I revived the nose bras. DMC came
out with an identical one about two years later so I don't do them now. I once
discussed with James Espey an idea I had for printing and selling affordably
reprinted Stainless Steel Illusion copies. He told me not to bother... they were
already working on it and it would be available by Christmas. (Must have hit a
few snags... it was more like 5 years later.) Fine by me... I'm sure it was time
consuming and expensive for them to do. And the point was to have them available
for a reasonable price... not a scheme for making a pile of money, so I'm
delighted for the sake of the DeLorean community that they did it. Meanwhile, if
I keep saying I'm working on a revision... which.... sigh... I still am, maybe
they'll crank one out before I finish, and save me the trouble. After all,
who'da thunk we'd see new torsion bars at this point in time!

When new designs start coming out of Delorean,
I want them to be consumer-friendly. I want to be able to change the
spark plugs without having to lift the entire engine. I want to change
the headlights without dismounting the front wheels. A car computer isn't
a bad thing, let's just make it easy to get into.
