[DML] Re: 2 wheel tow dolly and the DeLorean

Hi,

I rented a U-Haul truck and transporter to get my D from MA to PJ Grady's in NY. It was surprisingly easy to load/drive/unload. 2 pieces of wisdom I can offer:

1. Someone mentioned having transported a D on a U-Haul trailer with the front of the car facing forward without incident, so maybe this is a non-issue, however: per the U-Haul Auto Transport user instructions (which you can find on the Uhaul site): "Load the heaviest end (engine end) of the vehiclein-tow to the FRONT of the auto transport trailer. Failure to load facing forward may result in sway or WHIPPING and lead to total loss of control." I transported mine with the rear of the car closest to the truck (i.e. the front of the trailer) & had no problems (I tied down my louvre to prevent it from going anywhere).

2. This is more for comic relief...I had never backed up a vehicle with a trailer in tow. When I got to PJ Grady's, I couldn't get a good angle to get into the drive, so I drove down a side street that came to a dead end at the Atlantic (as-in the ocean), with a dock jutting out quite a ways. Long story short, I ended up stuck on the dock and couldn't back up to save my life due to conveniently parked cars, boats, etc. Some local fisherman had to bail me out. The tragic part is that there was a street just before the docks that I could have turned into to bring myself back to Grady's without having to back up...lol. Anway, if you never have done it, avoid backing up or practice in a parking lot somewhere first!
