[DML] Re: torsion bar questions

Lawrence's bars show specs on DMOCO's site here:

More specs here:

>From what I remember talking with Lawrence they were made just like the originals but with "roll broaching" the splines so they won't swell & get stuck in the brackets like the current ones do over time & torque.

I'm sure he could give you more info if you were to call.
Phone number here:

Not sure about Henninger's, never talked to him only seen his YouTubeVideo.

    torsion bar questions

every time the subject of the torsion bar turns up on this group it wants to worry me.

the door is a sophisticated piece of engineering. to have access to the relevant engineering data and put together the design effort that would permit understanding of the existing design is no small effort.

    so i have two questions:

the people that are selling these potentially dangerous replacement bars, they have done some sort of finite element modeling of the structure, yes? or at least the basic analytical calculations? they would be willing to share these with us? the analysis comprises more than just the bar, yes?

the original bars were annealed in liquid nitrogen. anyone know why? surely Grumman (the subcontractor on some portion of the door - smart move here by DeLorean) had a good reason for doing this. what improvements in metallurgy in the past 30 years permits one to omit the anneal?
