Re: [DML] Is dry ice under car harmful

Although I have never personally used dry ice under my delorean I have done plenty of experiments with it for my students.  Dry ice is just frozen Carbon Dioxide at -125 degrees F.  As long as the ice does not come in contact with the car especially the vinyl or leather you are fine.  Every pound of dry ice yields 250 liters of CO2 gas.  They call it dry ice because there is no liquid in the unfreezing process just a dry gas so no there is no way for it to harm your car.  I would however make sure no one was sitting in the vehicle during the demonstration because they could suffocate..  I believe during the filming of the movie they used a fire extinguisher to layer ice on the outside of the car.  This is essentially the same but the chemical powder used in most now are just messy.  Dry ice is definately a good choice especially when placed in water under the car.  Have fun at the demo and keep living the dream!

      Dear fellow De Lorean owners:

I have agreed to display my car at a fund raiser for a school using the theme "Back To The Future" and they would like to use dry ice under the car to I presume simulate clouds.

I plan to open and keep the doors up and I am wondering if the fumes or vapor from the ice can cause any damage to the car? I imagine that some of the vapors will comes into contact with the car's underbody, brake and clutch line rubber hoses, stainless steel side panels, plastic of the bumpers and possibly even the upholstery of the open doors to name a few,

My guess is it won't be a problme but I may be overlooking something and I would appreciate any opion on this.

Many thanks in advance.
