Re: [DML] Back to R12?

Andy, When I ordered my refurbished DeLorean in 2001, I inquired about 134a and was advised against it. I took delivery in June 2001 and since then I have added 12 ounces if R12. I did that last spring even though the system was still putting out cold air, it was not as cold as needed. After adding the R12, I checked the temperature of the air at the center console and it was 42 degrees with the fan on the second speed. The air temperature was 90 degrees when the check was done. I checked the AC temperature in the same manner today and it is still 42 degrees at the center console with the air temperature at 91 degrees. If I increase the fan speed to the third or fourth speed, the temperature at the console goes up to 48 or 50 degrees. I will keep my system R12 as long as it is available. Others have used Freeze 12 as a substitute and based upon what I have heard, I probably would choose it over switching an R12 system to 134a. I switched my 78
Eldorado to 134a and it leaks down during the winter and I have also had the high pressure hose to blow out since the switch over. Rod 10921

Group,

A few years ago I had a leak in my AC which was repaired, then had the system
refilled with R134. The oil was changed, new fittings installed, and system
vacuumed for over an hour. The thing is, I have to refill every year to two
because the hoses leach 134 over time. I am considering going back to R12. Has
anyone done this after switching once? Any dangers or tips?

My system always holds good vacuum, I think its just the smaller 134 molecules
leak through the long hoses.

Thanks,
Andy
