RE: [DML] Fuel Pump?

Bob, back in 1983 had the same problem with SN1381...  Was a defective "G" or inertia switch..  Exact same symptoms...  Removed, repaired and replaced the switch, still works today...  The metal ball inside the switch was corroded along with the contacts on the sides of the "cone" or taper. If my memory serves me right the "G" switch was manufactured by Lucas, the king of darkness...  Knowing full well it was a "jury rig" fix, fully expected it to fail long ago.. Sealed the switch with a liberal covering of RTV.... And like I said still working today, some 26 years later...

As this was a common early model problem, the dealers had an unacceptable fix of using a "jumper wire" on the "G"  switch..  Problem with that was when you locked the door it would break the circuit to the fuel pump and kill the engine..

Johnny Steele SN1381.

I went to fire up the "Silver Bullet" this weekend, and though it has been a fair time, the normally reliable beast was not so this time. Tapped the inertia switch back in place, turned the key to "run", listened as the ubiquitous hum & relay-clicking stopped, flicked the key, and "vroom".... for about 2 seconds. Then nothing but spin. Got it to run about 15-20 seconds when I "primed" it, but would not keep going. Pulled an injector, tried starting again and no squirting fuel. Popped the engine-side line off accumulator, spun with same results. Pulled the center line off the fuel pump, spun, again, no squirting fuel. Hmmm. Do fuel pumps spontaneously die like that? This is my 2nd, in use (well, not much) for ~18 yrs. Am I missing something, or is it time for a new pump? Drive Stainless (if it would start) Robert VIN 6924
