Re: [DML] Angle Drive

If I remember correctly, I think I saw something on the back of the speedo indicating the standard 1000 revs per mile.  So the odd ration must have had to do with the Delorean's selected front tire size.

If I take a mile (5280ft) and divide by 1000, a 1:1 ratio wheel would have to cover 5.28 feet per revolution.
A 5.28 foot circumference wheel would be (5.28/3.14*12) = 20.18" tall

The actual wheel on the Delorean is (195/25.4*.6*2)+14" = 23.21" tall

If we use the 8:9 ratio angle drive, it makes the 23.21 inch tire act like a (23.21*8/9) = 20.63" tire.  (pretty close)

Which raises the question, why 8:9? Did they get a great deal on
discount speedometers?

Complicated is better...?

Convetion dictates probably clockwise... . which is the direction a left
wheel rotates, as viewed from the inside. This would also work with
bevel gears, but this can't be done on the DeLorean because of the
requirement to have an 8:9 ratio in a single stage, hence the use of
screw gears etc etc etc.
