RE: [DML] Re: Valley of death sweet spot - Universal D

I worked for Universal and helped to build the BTTF Ride in LA and FL. In the spring of '93 just before LA opened the studio purchased my car used from Mark Hassen I believe, (anybody here know him?)with the intention to raffle it off on the opening day of The Ride. Confusion and Hilarity ensued, and in the end Universal found that that they couldn't raffle the car. The studio is good at buying things, using them and throwing them out, but they had no good process for selling the car off, so it sat on the lot for a dozen years. It took me about two hears to get them to sell me the car, which was then so neglected that it was fiscally totaled. After several years and a lot of work I now have a nice driver. Its a typical '82, not dressed as a picture car. It probably bears the distinction of being the most stock of any Universal owned car, and due to the aforementioned hilarity and confusion, one of the most expensive ever. Universal had between $75k and $100k invested in the car by the time I got it. Figures that would make even D1 proud.

Tom,

Was there a reason why your car sat at a the Universal backlot...was
it part of the BTTF cars or in the Movie itself or used as a prop
car, or was it used in other movies made by Universal
Studios....History....why and how it came about sitting there for 12
years at the Universal backlot...
