[DML] Re: Article on replacing the antennae

Getting to the antennae is pretty straightforward. You have to remove
the 4 bolts holding in the vapor canister and turn it so it can come
out with the panel attached. The problems begin when you can't get the
bolts out of the rivnuts in the fiberglass. Then you have to cut the
heads off. If you replace the antennae you may have to bypass the
relay that runs the motor. The relay is behind the driver's seat under
the carpet and wood. Later model antenna do not need that relay to
function (they have one built in). All antenna need good grounds to
function properly to receive a good signal and for the motor to run.
If the old one is dead check the power to it AND be sure it is
grounded. The usual failure mode is for the plastic drive cable to
break. The motor will run but it won't move the mast.
