I'm not really up on my catalyst chemistry, but oxidation of carbon 
monoxide to carbon dioxide.is one of the primary functions of a 
three-way catalytic converter. CO2 is not poisonous, but a lack of 
oxygen wouldn't be good, you're absolutely right. However if there was 
enough getting into the garage to keep the engine running....
