[DML] Hood Lever Attachment

There is a small cylinder that the hood release cable slides into and the cable is secured to with a screw in the end of the cylinder.  It looks like the other end of the cylinder should slip into the latch lever, but mine won't go through the hole in the latch lever, it's just slightly too big.
How is the cylinder supposed to attach to the latch lever?  Did my cylinder just pull out of the latch lever?
