I have been misquoted - I was talking about the turbo engines and 
without the check valve, there would be up to a bar of positive pressure 
applied to the crank case, no doubt blowing oil out through the front 
and rear main seals, popping the dipstick out, not to mention the oil 
filler cap itself (although they are actually clipped down on the turbo 
engines)

The turbo engines are vented much like the DeLorean engine, but via a 
check valve.
