Sorry to say the racks you saw must have been on DMCH?s table because I
didn?t bring any racks to the show! I do sell their rack (they are kind of
?pretty? I?ll admit) however and I also still offer reconditioned rack?s.

Other possible areas to rule out before condeming the rack:
The rubber bushings that hold the rack to the frame
The tie rod ends
A loose U-joint bolt holding it to the shaft
If the play is evenly spread, ie, you have the same looseness at the
ends of travel as in the center then you can try removing shims.
Typically most of the wear happens at the center of the rack, none on
the ends so if you try removing shims it will be too tight on the
ends. The only fix is to machine the whole rack and then fit it
together again. Fortuntely rebuilt racks are available. Unfortunely
they are not cheap. P J Grady had some at the DCS '08 show, they
looked pretty!
