Re: [DML] Fuel pump Buzz/Hum and engine cutting out briefly

Kevin,

I'm not sure about fuel pump lifespan, however my fuel pump has whined/buzzed several times. Once it did it when it sucked up some debris from the fuel tank. The other times were when the gas in the tank got hot (due to hot ambient temps outside or sitting in traffic with all the heat from the radiator being blown onto the fuel tank from the cooling fans). A collapsing fuel pick up hose can also cause the problem you are describing, or it could of course just be the fuel pump going bad. I only replaced my FP once on my DeLorean (it was in 2004) and I have put 40K on my DeLorean since then and the pump still works fine (knock on wood)..

I hope this helps

So, driving back from DCS on Sunday, my car lost power on the highway 2-3
quick times, then the engine kicked back in (almost like inertia switch cut
in/out 2-3 times real quick)

I traveled another 45 minutes, and it happened one more time about 10 miles
from home. I made it home, and noticed that my fuel pump was
"Whining/buzzing/humming" quite a bit. I have never heard this
before.

Is this the overheating problem? Do I need a new fuel pump? What kind of
lifespan should I expect?
Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
