[DML] Re: Drive axle O-rings (was Differential Adjustment Nut)



For those keeping score, there are two types of O-rings being 
considered here.  I think that some of the confusion in this thread is 
caused by the fact that there are two - under the diff adjustment nut, 
and also common to the drive axle hub splines.  The larger one under 
the Diff nut is the one that Rob was referring to.  The smaller ones on 
each side that are common to the hub splines were the subject of 
another post in this thread.  We have replaced many of the ones common 
to the hubs, and never the one under the diff nut.  You can tell that 
these smaller O-rings are leaking by seeing traces of oil at the seam 
between the drive axle hubs and the end of the drive axle end housing 
on the inboard end.  This can be another cause of oil found on the 
outside of the transmission around the drive axles.  The other cause 
is, of course, the lip seals.
