Ahhh - I'm afraid the sad truth is that while the engine is a bit on the weak side, if your are suffering stalls etc you probably need to spend some more $$$ - but it will be worth it.  Even bone stock car is certainly drivable, - but race-able - not so much...

Try taking the Henry Hudson parkway north mid day till you hit the Taconic - if your not passing cars, your car is not up to snuff.  The BMWs will be passing you, but not too much else, you car handles better most.
