Farrar, be careful that the mats don't act as a coat and it gets hotter
under them and dries the dash out quicker. Also watch for any chemicals in
the matt doesn't bleed onto the dash. I had to get rid of mine because of
this even though the backing has large pores and it will breathe easy. It
was a Dash Mat also. Don't get me wrong they are good, but just watch out.

Both of my cars' dashboards are in fine shape, but I use a dashboard 
cover for a different reason: it reduces the glare coming back at me 
from the inside of the windshield, vastly improving visibility.
