[DML] Re: Further Thoughts on Angle Drives

Unless the louvers AND engine cover are open, my carburetor is hidden
and invisible as well (the only way you know it's in there is because
the engine is running so good)....

Cost of materials to modify the angle drive: 15-20 cents
Cost of spindle cables: $5.95 each (prorated cost goes up if you
mismeasure and cut one too short)
Time to disassemble, examine, play & experiment with angle drives: 3-4
days
Time to actually fix the stupid thing: About an hour (unless you
mismeasure the spindle cable, cut it too short, and need to take
everything apart to make a new one).

The crimp end for Help! brand speedometer cables has a lip that's too
big to fit through the spindle, so the cable was inserted into the
angle drive before it was screwed back on. I'm considering filing that
lip off my next cable so it can be inserted from the front. May be a
challenge to fish around inside the spindle and find the square
receiver though. Only one way to find out....
