[DML] Re: Where are the 397 missing first production Deloreans ??

According to Stainless Steel Illusion, page 82, you are correct. It
mentions the "black" cars with "at least inner body/chassis cars
without stainless steel". Many of us just assumed they had some kind
of body panel, probably plastic, but there was never any actual
evidence of that. I guess they were training the crew but did not have
any body panels to work with. BTW SSI goes on to say that among the
initial 500 cars shipped to the US these "black" cars were included so
the according to SSI the "several hundred black cars" became part of
the inital production. The inference here is that the majority of the
inital production run of 500 are the "black cars". Maybe these are the
ones with the very textured underbody? What I would really like to see
would be the foam shipping pads that you see in the pictures of the
cars being shipped. I really doubt any still exist anymore.
