I had always heard that there were two reasons the DeLorean just had leather
only on the fronts of the seats, and no where else in the car besides the
leather wrapped steering wheel, and the original shifter boots.  

 

1 - As previously mentioned due to economic concerns

2 - How many people here enjoy taking care of their leather, and do it as
often as you're suppose to?  (once a month)  

 

I sure as hell don't!  If the whole interior was leather, can you imagine
how many people would be complaining about how much work it was to maintain?
The vinyl is virtually maintenance free by comparison.  I'll acknowledge
that the sun fading and cracking of the dash and binnacle are an issue, but
I'd much prefer dyeing or recovering those parts after 20 or so years of use
than having to massage everything once a month with Leatherique or similar
product.

I always thought that the center console was wrapped in leather too, right?
The seats and the consoles, and I guess the door panels are the only areas.
So which parts are leather?
